Summer nightmare

by Marie
(Louisiana)

It started with a scalp sunburn. It wasn't that bad. No blistering. The falling started 2 weeks after. I was stunned and it kept falling day after day. I dreaded washing it or combing it.

I visited my GP and had blood tests just as a precaution. No problems, just scalp irritation that she assured me would fix itself. It took a couple of months for my scalp to feel normal. So much tingling and weird sensations. The hair grew back immediately even while it was still falling. I was so self conscience. Every time I went out, I couldn't wait to just get back home and hide. My neighbor came one day unannounced, and gasped when she saw me. So embarrassing.

The dandruff shampoo I tried for irritation only made pain and shedding worse. I went back to using my regular shampoo and no blow drying. One last note. I am very fair with delicate red hair. Maybe this contributed to the problem with sun damage. I think that by Spring, it will be a bad memory and funny story.
