My hair loss

Basically my story is that I have always had very fine hair and lots of it. I am 27 I guess in the last year or so I have noticed my hair getting a little thinner, however in about April this year I started to shed lots of hair each day and the density of my hair is probably half of what it used to be, mind you no one else notices unless its pointed out to them.

At the start of last year I started a job as a graduate Occupational Therapist which has been very stressful, I have been sick on and off, experienced really bad jaw clenching, face pain, headaches, nausea and the list goes on.

At the start of this year I lost about 8 kg from stress as I couldn’t eat properly I was so anxious. My hair has been falling out excessively for about four to five months now. I can start to see little hairs sprouting up all over the place now however I am really worried this is the start of some form of genetic hair loss as a lot of the hairs are finer that my existing hair.

I found out I was low in vitamin B12 so I have been taking supplements for about three months now. My hair is a little thinner on the sides/temples than the top and the back I think but of course I cannot examine it properly. My doc and hairdresser keep saying it’s normal to lose hair everyday but I know that this is not normal for me and I am really worried that this fine regrowth means I have miniaturisation!!

Any comments, suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you,
Kindest Regards
Lauren

Editor’s Comments,

Hi there Lauren, it is indeed normal to lose hairs daily. Everyone lose around 50-100 hairs daily. Our hair like our skin cells shed off when their time is up and it’s replaced by new hairs.

Your hair loss is most probably caused by physical and emotional stress, as most people do. It’s the most common form of temporary hair loss. Sometimes stress can take its toll on your hair and you can see your hair shedding faster than normal. Recovery for these bouts of hair loss will take time as well as your hair doesn’t grow back overnight.

The key to faster hair growth is to relax. Give yourself a break and try to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Keeping a healthy lifestyle is the best way to help your hair to grow back. Cheers.

Oscar nominated filmmaker Morgan Spurlock is casting a funny, fantastic, feature length documentary about male grooming. Do you know a man (husband maybe?) that is worried about hair loss? Who has tried a lot of products to keep his hair? Is always fretting about losing his hair, and watching and looking for products that will keep what hair he has on his head? Are YOU that man?
If you know this man, or are this man ? please send us your story, a contact number and a recent picture of the man to mensgroomingdoc@gmail.com
