Men Hair Loss Treatment

There are a lot of men hair loss treatments available for Male Pattern Baldness. In any hair loss treatments, you will usually need to use a regimen of medications for effective results. I would say the standard regimen should consist of 4 most important Cause and Effect Treatment specific to your condition. There are
  • DHT inhibitor
  • Anti-Androgen
  • Cleanser
  • Growth Stimulants

Each of these performs a different task in helping to curb hair loss. Use each of them as your hair loss regimen and you will greatly improve the rate of recovery.

The Fantastic 4..

Men Hair Loss Treatment 2

DHT Inhibitor

As men hair loss is mainly caused by DHT accumulation in the hair follicles, removing DHT is your number one priority when starting a regimen. There are two types of DHT inhibitors which are
  • Oral
  • Topical

DHT Inhibitors function by denying the formation of DHT in your body. Our body's enzyme 5 Alpha Reductase (5AR) interacts with the male hormone Testosterone, which forms DHT. Using DHT inhibitors can block the 5AR enzymes from binding with Testosterone, thus reducing the DHT levels in your body.

Topical DHT Inhibitors for men hair loss like Revivogen works by prohibiting formation of DHT on the scalp level, therefore you are less prone to side effects compare to oral treatments like Propecia or Avodart because the product's DHT inhibition properties won't enter the bloodstream.

Selecting your DHT inhibitor

Oral

Topical

It's best that you review each individual product in the Product Review section before selecting the DHT inhibitor of your choice. Most people choose Propecia because it's FDA approved and has confirmed success rates. Revivogen has also received tremendous feedbacks on its effectiveness in reducing DHT in men hair loss without causing side effects.

Studies have also showed that Avodart is a much more powerful DHT inhibitor compare to Propecia because it inhibits two types of the 5AR enzyme while Propecia only blocks one. However, Avodart is more potent and is not intended for treating hair loss. The choice is yours, so it's best to review and understand the potential side effects of each product before selecting.

DHT inhibitors are suitable for

  • Male Pattern Baldness
  • Norwood Stage 2 to 5

AntiAndrogens

Antiandrogens are a group of compounds that can block the androgen receptor sites like the ones in your hair follicles from binding with DHT. After you have a DHT inhibitor to reduce the DHT concentration in your body, choose a topical Antiandrogen product that can prevent the remaining DHT from binding with your hair follicles.

Oral Antiandrogens can cause moderate and severe side effects and should only be used for treating more serious medical conditions. For hair loss, use topical Antiandrogens like Spironolactone Topical Cream that metabolized quickly on the scalp so it does not reach the blood stream. Medicated shampoo like Nizoral contains Ketoconazole which has mild Antiandrogens capability is also a good choice too.

Selecting your AntiAndrogen

There are a few types of products that have antiandrogen properties. They are

Antiandrogens are suitable for

  • Male Pattern Baldness
  • Norwood Stage 2 - 5

Scalp Cleanser

Scalp cleansers are important because they purify your scalp and removes dandruff. Polluted scalp can hinder topical treatments effeciency because pollutants can clog up pores that prevents the medication's penetration to your hair follicles. Dandruff can cause irritation and inflammation to your hair follicles and can accelerate hair loss.

Get a good anti dandruff cleanser like Nizoral that has anti hair loss properties as well as a successful anti-dandruff deterrent to keep your scalp clean and clear it for other treatments.

Selecting your Scalp Cleanser

There are a few good scalp cleansers available such as

Scalp Cleansers are suitable for

  • Male Pattern Baldness
  • Any hair loss condition
  • Norwood Stage 1 - 7

Growth Stimulants

Growth stimulants like Minoxidil provide a boost by forcing your hair follicles to grow. Minoxidil is a 'Pottasium Channel Agonist', where it triggers your hair follicles for maximized growth.

When you are suffering from Male Pattern Baldness, DHT damaged your hair follicles by shortening the growing phase (ANAGEN) and prolonging the resting phase (TELOGEN). Over time and after a few growth phases, your hair follicles will look thinner and thinner. Growth stimulants will help you boosts your hair growth after you stop DHT.

Tricomin offers new Copper Peptide technologies to help stimulate hair growth. While there should not be a limit in getting growth stimulants as a part of your men hair loss regimen, it is only limited by the size of your wallet. However, don't choose the same growth stimulant products that has the same mode of action (example Rogaine and generic Minoxidil). Using more will not increase the performance but find different trigger methods instead

Selecting your Growth Stimulants

There are a good range of growth stimulants for men hair loss like

Growth Stimulants are suitable for

  • Male Pattern Baldness
  • Norwood Stage 2 - 5
  • Other hair loss conditions

It's best to get only what you need and never overuse potent medications like Minoxidil (Rogaine) and Finasteride (Propecia) because they can cause side effects and damaging to your health. Overusage will burden your body and can cause stress, which in return can trigger more hair loss. Use them effectively but never excessively. Too much of anything is never good.

How about STAGE 6 - 7?

Men hair Loss Treatment

As you should have noticed, most of these men hair loss treatments are recommended for stage 2 to 5 of the Norwood Scale. That does not mean that there is no hope for those in later stages like 6 or 7. However, at the later stages, getting a full recovery is quite hard by using these medications compare to the earlier stages. When you reached stage 6 or 7 in the Norwood Scale, most of your hair follicles in the affected part of your scalp are already dead or dying and you can't regenerate dead hair follicles. You can still try these medications, but don't put too much hope on a full restoration.

What you can do is to

  • shave your hair bald
  • get a hairpiece or hair implants
  • wait for new technologies like Hair Cloning

Hair Transplants

Good hair transplants are totally invisible to the naked eye and are suitable for people with moderate hair loss (Stage 3 - 6). Hair transplant is a good choice for people who

  • are allergic to medications
  • are impatient with conventional treatments
  • have time for recovery
  • are not afraid of going under the blade
  • failed at other treatments

If you are that sort of person, going for hair transplants might be a viable men hair loss option for you.

I can recommend and provide your more information on this in my dedicated Hair Transplant page.

Curing the Psychological Aspect

As all men hair loss treatments take time to work, how about dealing with your psychological problems during that period? If you are having Pattern Baldness, I know how you feel (because I felt it before), you are likely very critical and worried about your hair loss and wondering will it get worse. Psychologically, you can face with

  • lack of self confidence
  • unmotivated
  • feeling unattractive
  • stress
  • lost
  • hopelessness

While there is no way you can use conventional medications to cure and recover your hair in a few weeks or months, there are still many options available that can give back your confidence IMMEDIATELY. You don't need to suffer from these psychological impacts while treating hair loss. There are a lot of options that can provide you with temporary relieve like

  • Concealers
  • Caps
  • Wigs
  • Hair thickeners

We will discuss about these hair loss options and how to use them effectively in the Hair Loss Options and Wigs and Hair Pieces pages.
