Understanding Hair Loss Concealers

Hair loss concealers have been used by professionals and consumers for quite a while. One of the most common reasons why some people's hair loss is more obvious than others is because of the differences in the scalp's color contrast to the hair. If you notice, your normal hair color is always darker than your scalp (in normal conditions) and if you have fairly light colored skin and dark colored hair, your receding hair line or bald spots are definitely more obvious.

Hair Loss Concealers

In contrast, people who have darker colored skin and hair are less exposed to the effects of baldness. Technically speaking, if you can reduce the difference between your scalp color and your hair, you can minimize the appearance of baldness.

What are Hair Loss Concealers?

Hair Loss concealers use the same theory as your normal skin and facial concealer products but they are designed to suit your scalp instead. What these concealers do is to apply a color coating in forms of powder or liquid that reduces the contrast between your scalp and hair, thus reducing the appearance of hair loss. Besides Toppik, concealers are the best temporary remedies to help you conceal your baldness and gain back your confidence.

What is the Difference?

In terms of hair loss options, I would prefer not to over recommend because, in my opinion, there are just too many products in the market that just do not work as effectively as Toppik in concealing hair loss. However, it's always good to consider a second option like getting hair loss concealers because they have some benefits and qualities that hair fibers cannot offer.

Who is Suitable for it?

Hair Loss Concealers are appropriate for most hair loss conditions except a few severe cases. If you have

Then you can opt for choosing hair loss concealers as your temporary solution to your hair loss problems. Concealers are also suitable for those facing any sort of non scarring type of hair loss. If you have auto immunity related scalp diseases that leads to scarring or scalp problems like Scarring Alopecia, then I do advice not to apply it to prevent the product from penetrating your wounds.

Will it Stay on My Head?

Well, hair concealers do a magnificent job staying on your head. One advantages of hair loss concealers over hair fibers like Toppik, are its ability to stay on your scalp when swimming. Due to the fact that the application sticks to the scalp and not by static charges on the hair follicles, they are more durable and won't we wash off by friction or heavy flow of water.

Using Hair Concealers Effectively

Where there are plenty of hair concealers in the market like Spencer Forrest's Couvre or Dermmatch, most of these applications utilizes the same basic concept. To apply these products are relatively simple indeed. However, you will still have to master the application technique or else you might not get it to blend well with your hair line.

If you are using Topical Treatments like Minoxidil, apply it first and wait for it to dry before applying or you might mess it up! Since there are so many types, I will be using COUVRE as an example to demonstrate on how to use it effectively.

  1. Comb your hair away from the area you want to apply Couvre.
  2. Firstly, soak the sponge application into cool water and then squeeze the water out. This helps to spread Couvre smoothly around your scalp.
  3. Apply the lotion into the applicator. Make sure you don't apply it all at one location but instead press hard and apply in circles so that the lotion is even on the applicator. Don't over apply, just start with a small portion and slowly adjust to your requirements.
  4. Rub the sponge around the area and pay more attention and detail to areas with plenty of hair to match the color of the scalp.
  5. Slowly and softly, rub the sponge around the front hair line to blend it the rest of the applied area with the front.
The secret to master the application are experience. You might mess it up little on your first try, but after several applications, you will get used to applying it and it will be so easy you won't even need to focus.

Removing Hair Loss Concealers

Just like most topical products, you can remove by just shampooing your head. If you are using this product daily, look for mild shampoos instead because you will have to wash your head every day. Shampoos that are too strong are not good for the hair shaft.

The best time to wash it off is at night before you head to bed so that you can apply your topical hair loss treatments. If you are not using any topical hair loss treatments, you might not need to wash your hair so frequently and these hair loss concealers can stay in your head until you shampoo it out. It's also one way to save costs.

The Power of Two

Toppik Couvre

While you might only consider one product like hair fibers or hair loss concealers to use, try considering getting both if you do swim or stay outdoors often. Although hair concealers like Couvre are more durable, it's much easier to spot the difference under broad day light. While Toppik enhances your overall hair density, hair loss concealers only conceals the baldness at the scalp level and do not do much good in amplifying your hair's volume.

So if you are going outdoors frequently, intense sunlight might penetrate through your hair and expose the cover up if observed up close. So it's best to consider both as your temporary hair loss option.
