Female Pattern Baldness
is a medical condition.

Not only men can have genetic hair loss. Women too can get Female Pattern Baldness (FPB). However, FPB does a little less damage than Male Pattern Baldness.

Female Pattern Baldness

Straightening Things Up

Female Pattern Baldness or Female Androgenic Alopecia has the same traits as the men condition of Male Pattern Baldness. Don't be confused with other hair loss conditions such as Postpartum Hair Loss and other Diseases and Conditions that can also be a cause of hair loss.

The Genetics of FPB

Genes play a vital role in FPB. If someone in your family has it there is a higher chance that you can get it too even if you are a female. However, no matter what condition, FPB is milder compare to its male counterpart.

What causes FPB?

Female Pattern Baldness works like the same as MPB. It is caused by the gradual thinning of the hair by the male hormone Testosterone which is found in lesser amount in women.

In men, the male hormone Testosterone is more potent because it's converted to DHT which is 3 times more potent than the former.

Women who has FPB might start to notice their hair thinning usually

  • mid 20s to 30s
  • after menopause
  • stopping their oral contraceptives

Most of the reasons behind this condition is due to hormonal changes in the women's body. That is the main reason you are afflicted with the disease.

The Inner Workings of Estrogen

Estrogen is the main defense against Testosterone. It acts as a balancing hormone to prevent Testosterone from been dominant in the female body. FPB usually starts when there is a hormonal imbalance in your body that affects these two hormones.

When you are in menopause, the levels of estrogen go down and Testosterone starts intruding your body. Testosterone will bind with your hair follicles and create thinning. Most cases of FPB happen during and after menopause.

There is also a possibility of getting FPB before menopause. If you are undergoing

  • Stress
  • Hormone Replacement Therapy
  • Suffering for hormonal disorders
  • Premature aging

Any treatment or disease that can affect your body's hormonal 's systems are a potential catalyst for FPB. So it's good to always replenish what you have wasted. Vitamins and Supplements are always a good way to start!

Will I get completely bald with FPB?

As I mentioned earlier, FPB is less invasive in women compare to men. But if you do not treat your FPB effectively, you can still lose a significant number of hair as you age. The Ludwig Scale is designed to indicate the severity of the condition.

Going for Hair Transplant.

Hair transplant is also another viable option for FPB. As FPB is not as severe as MPB, a good hair transplant might be a suitable choice for you. You will learn how Hair Transplant has advanced compare to a few decades ago!
